the actual results of the study are interesting and it seems from some cursory research it was scrapped for making a lot of the participants really depressed and suicidal more than would be expected in other hormonal treatments like birth control or HRT while also being like pretty effective but still not quite there since it’s just harder to design effect birth controls for men besides a vasectomy

it won’t let me post a link to the npr article i was trying to share but it’s pretty easy to find and it’s a good interview with one of the researchers

and the actual research isn’t being halted just that one study because one of the participants attempted suicide so they cut the study short to spend some time trying to come up with a safer dosage to prevent that kind of serious side effect
