it depends, sometimes they just turn into like … distant friends but when you do the once in a while catch ups , it’s always worth it

but ya it'll never be the same closeness 24/7 unless yall live in the same city. don't get me wrong you can still keep them as best friends if you invest time into the friendship, but you will have to find new friends in ur current city
