I’ll take it one step further and say that marriage is extremely idealized in our society to the extent where the focus is on the optics of partnership rather than a relationship built on mutual growth and love 🫣
Maybe controversial opinion but I think modern American weddings and the culture is so extremely wasteful, tacky and unnecessary. Imagine that money going to literally anything else that’s actually important

I mean I agree to a certain extent, and I wouldn’t ruin my life for a wedding — but there’s also a certain weight to the celebration of love commitment that is valid and important to a lot of people. I want a wedding and all the little things that come with it, I know it’s largely a construct but I’m living in a world built in part on that construct and I don’t think there’s anything wrong with choosing to celebrate these things and idealizing the happy of it all as long as I don’t go into debt-

Well I guess I more meant that I agree with what you said but I also think there’s room for marriages or weddings to focus on growth and love rather than simply optics, I think theres a dialectic there that isn’t inherently about the optics in every case. That’s like… it. Lol

I was just contributing to the conversation 😭 didn’t entirely thing I had to use the same exact wording to imply I thought there is more to it in some cases
