It can do that too. If you send an anonymous letter anywhere in the world, authorities can trace the exact printer used, determine when and where it was sold, and follow other clues that can ultimately identify you.

It’s what the dull yellow numbers are on US bills, prevents compliant photocopiers/scanners from manipulating it
