the point is you can be happy that we became independent from Britain while not condoning every action or person that led to that, much like you can love a country while being able to criticize it in order to improve it. you are being that girl who is too woke not bc of that sentiment but bc of you not understanding the main point of the post at all and commenting as though you’re making some genius take instead of something everyone knows
“something good happened but it wasn’t good for ME! I don’t care if all of you had better lives bc I DIDN’T YET!” what if we celebrate July 4 with the understanding that it wasn’t perfect, didn’t bring us all to freedom but did so much good for many people, and also celebrate Juneteenth to appreciate the further steps towards equality taken then. you don’t have to be directly impacted by something to appreciate or celebrate - my ethnic group wasn’t directly impacted by Juneteenth -
For you to have worded it that way at the beginning was so weird, I didn’t bother reading the rest cause you know wtf I mean. 🤦🏾♀️ IMMA STAND on what I said. BLACK PEOPLE were still in CHAINS that’s why we got Juneteenth. African Americans were still being slaved, beaten, breed, and RAPED. My ancestors had no choice back then but we have the choice now and I’m choosing NOT to celebrate for all the reasons I stated above. Have a beautiful holiday. <3
wait so if you’re not American and no one in your family is, why are you going after a post celebrating an American holiday? like “hey im not related to this AT ALL but here are my personal complaints” and then i address them and all you can say is “well it doesn’t matter to me since i’m not related to this at all”. what?? you just complained about it bro, if it actually doesn’t concern you just don’t make annoying comments about it lmao
again, the entire country became independent from Britain (this means no one in the country had to pay insane taxes to Britain, which they previously did). this doesn’t mean everyone immediately gained freedom - many people did not. however, this was one step closer for everyone towards Juneteenth, which would not have been possible if we were still under British rule because their shitty operation of colonizing the states required the exploitative labor of slaves all the way through
Girl I’m saying this as somebody who usually celebrates the fourth but saying the rev got us “closer to Juneteenth is dumb as shit, respectfully. Please google the Dunmore proclamation. A lot of Black people fought for the British in the Rev War specifically because they knew abolition was on the horizon for the British and that independence for the US would keep them enslaved longer.
