I feel like ppl who have no problem with ai are ignorant bc they don’t have to see the real world consequences there’s a rural town 7mi from my bf and they literally don’t have clean drinking water due to a meta data center that got built there it’s sick

Ohhh is this what they mean when they say ai consumes water? I’ve always wondered what exactly that meant I was extremely confused

ok but that’s prolly not the fault of ai as much as corporate entities consistently fucking up marginalized/underprivileged communities for their own gain like they do that in general i fear

No it’s ai. Ai had used more water this year than any water bottling company

I think that both things are true that corporations do not care about destroying rural communities but meta specifically does not care about it because they are vying for the top spot as the leading innovator for ai which is why these meta data centers are popping up in rural communities because they are bribing already struggling farmers for their land

Here’s a link to the actual study it’s titled “The carbon and water footprints of data centers and what this could mean for artificial intelligence” published by Alex de Vries-Gao https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S2666389925002788
