My parents have a problem with telling false negative narratives (but positive of themselves) of stories about me to people and they genuinely think they’re remembering things right and get mad when I correct it and say I’m wrong and I can not take it

The same people where we can have the same conversation five times and they won’t remember any of them

And somehow I’m always the demon in the stories they misremember. Like I was probably in my room or on the couch or at work…

The thing is this time they were talking to their friend about one of my outfits I spent a lot of money on and they like and were asking me where it was to show her. And I was like uh you threw it away when you were mad that I had some stuff stored in the garage. We talked ab this. It was in a box. And my dad was like no I didn’t. I wouldn’t do that. And then we went back and forth and I probably looked like an argumentative idiot to this friend.

I’m glad I’m not alone in this unique scenario because our PARENTS ARE THE SAME! My mom cleans when she’s stressed (same), but always moves shit around and is like “I didn’t touch it”. When I visit them, this happens 3x a day at the very least. I’ve started keeping track of incidents because I don’t like to be gaslit.

My mom does this too! I even ask her specifically not to move certain things, bc I will forget about them. They still end up getting moved eventually
