I am a 22 year old girl who for some reason has never had a lot of friends. I tried a lot in high school on multiple sports teams but it seemed like I always got left out. I get left out of family(cousin) hang outs and I don’t know what I am doing wrong.

i’m also 22 and just made friends for the first time this year. i didn’t really do anything different but i just kept faith, never stopped trying to meet new people, and always tried to be myself. i still feel like i just got lucky, bc it really is hard as fuck out here.

this is going to sound really mean but as someone who’s been there you likely are coming across as very desperate and lonely and as unfortunate as it is, that repels people. either that or you’re a lesbian in a small town idk

I am unfortunately with OP and the general feeling of what I’m doing wrong. And recently I went through I guess this example- I want to add a very nuanced or not spoken experience. Others can be really into us at first, I personally really tried to play this cool and like I was busy. But nobody needs to know what I’m doing right? To match the general frequency of others. It feels the moment I begin actually trying and letting a wall down to talk to them more or open to “I feel” statements is-

-When ppl begin to stop. Like some people liked the idea of you around and maybe will to have another body at an event. But they don’t like the person inside when they show their interests, humor, or plan a social event that just didn’t hit exactly right and then the ostracized feeling hits after recognizing the shift in behavior and mood
