i think sometimes men forget what 30-50 year old women look like—like i’m ngl i think that’s most women’s prime! women don’t suddenly shrivel up at 42 years old 🙄

my parents are literally in their 60s and they're wrinkles aren't bad at all. aging naturally will look better 9 times out of 10

the women on tiktok using anti-wrinkle straws, taping their jaws and faces to sleep in, all of that shit. it makes me sad. if you want to take care of your skin through the years you need to just protect your barrier and use spf and moisturizer!

my mom turns 50 next year and she hardly even has wrinkles, and she didn’t live perfectly or use expensive skincare regimens or botox, which I genuinely think some people believe is the only way to not look like an “old lady” in your 50s (because we told everyone 50 was an old lady 🙄)

for sure, there’s two things going on rn which both make me sad: first, the idea that women who are in their 30s and 40s “look old” according to uneducated young men, second, the fear of looking old! there’s nothing wrong with visible aging! it’s all just a ploy on women’s insecurities :/

i’m really into the beauty industry, so i’ve done a good deal of talking and writing about this stuff! it’s all marketing. companies make up things to be insecure about, and social media definitely helps spread it. like for example, shaving was seen as a masculine thing until like the 1940s when razor companies wanted more money so they decided to prey on the idea of women shaving their legs to be more feminine
