Hot take and I know this is hard /gen but chastising people FOR changing is exactly how we stay divided as a people
am I the only one who gets pissed off when I see people who regret voting for Trump? Like we could have had Kamala and YOU specifically screwed us all over.

agreed. if someone genuinely changes their mind and starts putting in the work, we can’t be upset with them for falling for forced substandard education and religious/political brainwashing

girl let’s talk in like 2 years but he haven’t even gotten started, he was elected 1 year ago. There is no excuse for being ignorant enough to vote for trump.

they can and should, but there’s no excuse and I won’t forgive them. We haven’t seen the full consequences of their actions.

listen: I can’t forgive them. That is my stance. They screwed up and people are going to suffer for it.

Then don’t forgive them but welcome a changed mind. Because as OP said, that is how we stay divided which is exactly what the gov wants

this is an insane take girl, you might want to look into learning some empathy for your fellow neighbor and do some research into the pipeline between substandard education and Trump’s cult following.

You can choose to not forgive their actions, but immediately putting a wall up to exclude people who made poor decisions in the past instead of opening up and continuing to politely educate them is exactly why there’s such a divide, and “us vs. them” mentality.

Because keep in mind, these people who are realizing they made a poor decision are also feeling the consequences of that. If we could simply see that we’re all pretty much equally getting screwed over by this admin, maybe we could actually make some real progress as a nation and not be as divided. The enemy is not some uneducated voter who learned from a mistake, it’s the person they mistakenly helped put in office

It's wild bc people like #1 honestly WANT an us v them mentality. But then they bitch and moan when the problems caused by "them" don't magically go away. Like when will change happen if we want people to be stagnant?

It makes me so disappointed because I spent 4 years studying political science, had so much interest in the intricacies of debate, demographics, elections, etc. and now all those nuances are stripped away and boiled down to “red bad blue good” or vice versa. The political climate is a shit show rn and has been for a while. I just want to see American politics at least become less of a reality show where politicians make inflammatory statements for the publicity

Like I want to actually talk to people on all sides of the issues and have an intelligent, meaningful conversation, regardless of whether we agree or disagree. But when we immediately jump to disowning anyone who isn’t in our own group that’s impossible to do :/

I'm so with you, omg. I think most of us are like us. The bitter and uneducated ones are just too loud so we have to speak louder

Girl I also have a degree in polisci (my focus was more IR/global militaries but still). Ever since the election I have been seeing the increasing polarization of parties, coupled with blatant propaganda, and just cringing. Crying. Throwing up. Because this is the EXACT OPPOSITE of what the founding fathers visualized when they set up our democracy. Good ole George was a HUGE advocate against two party systems BECAUSE OF THE SITUATION WE ARE CURRENTLY IN it drives me absolutely bonkers
