Erm so it’s not enough to just be not racist, you gotta be actively anti racist. You have to call out other white people for their bullshit, you have to listen to poc when they tell you something is racist, and you gotta keep educating yourself.

radicalism is kinda funny. you learn to be a sjw until you realize its not black and white. while its very VERY important(step 1) not to make light of the history of marginalized groups, its also important to remember that bias is impossible to eliminate from the brain. we must create a culture that is loving, inclusive, and respectful(including the rascists), so we can foster a community of people who at least understand that respect comes before hatred. from there, healing can begin to happen

The textbook definition of racism is hard to argue because systematic racism and racial discrimination are very different things. Racism takes account for history and where power has been and still is. As white person you can feel racial discrimination but it’s not the same as racism because society still favors you even if it’s hard to recognize. Like yes minorities can still be hateful toward you because you’re white however that’s not racism because racial discrimination is a result of racism

i agree with what youre saying. however, my argument is that if we fostered this kind of culture, racists would be more receptive to the idea “love>hate”. this isnt delusion, its just the truth. if you treat criminals like criminals, theyre gonna act like a criminal. this doesnt mean NOT holding people accountable, it just means SHIFTING the conversation to a more positive light. otherwise we end up in a feedback loop of disdain and resentment where we cant hear each other over ourselves

which isnt to say theres anything to hear out from racists, being racist is childish. psychology shows us that if we alienate our children when they have a line of thinking we disagree with, rather than foster the space for the child to express AND also receive opinion; the child is going to feel alone, and will find others who agree with them to reinforce their perspectives. its just the brain

Saying racism is not big is insane, because racism is still at large especially on social media. There was even a Facebook group of restaurant employees (from every state btw) that recently got exposed because it was them saying how they would spit in only poc foods and then there is also microaggression. just because you aren’t seeing it or hearing about it doesn’t mean that racism isn’t as big as it was before, in fact it’s probably getting more larger and once again more normalized

Ppl and bots saying racist stuff online doesn’t mean it’s big, I hate facebook for that reason. It’s not that big, but systemic racism like police brutality and the lack of opportunities for poc do exist still. Most black ppl say they’re hopeful for their futures so irdk why you think racism is becoming more normalized :/ half of America is not white

upvote 1 downvote

Anonymous replying to -> #9 13h

You actually just proved my even further with mentioning that even bots are being racist too, you have robots/ai programmed to be racist and leave racist comments and you’re still saying racism is not big. Yes there are black people that say they are hopeful for their feature but that does not mean ALL of them are hopeful for their futures some of them don’t even have a chance to be hopeful for their futures because of what they are facing and this goes for other pocs too

I would also like to mention how I did not mention anywhere in any of comments that only white people are racist, but we’re not going to sit here and act like most racism inflicted upon pocs are not from white people, hell from our own presidents. And once again racism is becoming more normalized everywhere and you need to accept that especially when you have people telling you that it is, it might be a bit more hidden in public but it is there.

Yeah, I agree. But racism isn’t the biggest problem they face. Poc are less likely to have good healthcare, less likely to go to the best schools, and more likely to get arrested. The internet isn’t the main issue, it should be the problem of America having no equal opportunity

Even though racism interconnected with health care disparities, job and housing opportunities, hell even hate crimes. You’re disgustingly ignorant.

Racism is the reason why there is no equal opportunity, racism plays the biggest part of that in America. I also don’t understand your thought pattern at all. Because if racism is not the reason why poc do not have an equal opportunity or chance in America, then what factor do YOU think plays into it, if it’s not racism. Genuinely asking, because in everything you said, you basically are saying and admitting to the fact that they are not getting the same equal treatment because they are poc.
