There is feminism within Islam and there is patriarchy within Islam, just like in most major religions. A patriarchal theocracy is going to use Islam to further the subjugation of women, an Islamic feminist is going to use it to promote and advance the rights of women against patriarchal tyranny All the currently existing Muslim cultures are very patriarchal even with that there are only 2 that legally mandate wearing a hijab like this, Iran and Afghanistan; these laws aren’t inherent to Islam
Yeah ultimately, I think someone can believe in a religion but also believe that the religious texts were misconstrued by the powerful men writing it down at the time and all of the translations (not the Quran since I don’t think any translations are allowed?) and that it wasn’t the deities’ intention but human corruption that lead to the twisting of religious texts.
It’s not an issue to talk about how the religion is used to control women what is an issue is acting like that is specific and essential to Islam, the religion is also used to advance the rights of women and if you’re annoying that part of the dynamic you’re painting an incomplete picture
Islam is used by feminists in the countries it is widely practiced to advance the rights of women right now, not just in the year 600, and it doesn’t take reinterpretation of things. There are still today many areas where what Islam requires in terms of women’s rights are things we still don’t have even in this country, equal pay is one example of that But yes, it is not just Christianity that is used to subjugate us, Islam and Judaism are as well and that is also important to talk about
