I see why people would be like “if you need two seats but two tickets,” but aside from the extra seat, they are still only one passenger for the airline/flight crew to look after (in terms of safety, refreshments, luggage, etc). It doesn’t make sense for one person, who has literally no other option but to use two seats, to have to buy two tickets.
