The only time ppl thought they did was bc of the lawsuit against their union. Why did they put a lawsuit? Because the union has the name of Starbucks. They were making political statements. Starbucks doesn’t tie itself to politics and wants to preserve its brand so they are enforcing a name change, like every other company has done w their unions
You *could* make the argument that Starbucks' shareholders support arms dealings with Israel, but that gets too far away from who should actually be targeted with consumer protest. Boycotts do work, when they are targeted and sustained. Practically every big corporation is complicit with Israeli apartheid and genocide somehow, but too big a target diffuses the power consumers can actually leverage (and have already!!)
(This isn't targeted at you OP, this is just to explain to others how to make for an effective boycott) Fuck Starbucks for union busting and working with farms that exploit children in growing the coffee beans. Boycott them for that. When you make the explicit choice to not shop somewhere, make clear *why.* And trust Palestinian activists in the BDS movement. They're playing the long game for maximum impact, and we should take our cues from them
