Not in my experience! They’re definitely not fun but it’s more of a pressure sensation than anything. The stretching with the speculum might hurt a little if you’re tense but it’s just important to relax. I had to get a second one done this year because my first one didn’t collect enough cervical cells so the more relaxed you can be the better job your OB can do and you hopefully won’t have to get another one for 3 years!
It can but for most people it doesn’t. For me, it hurt like hell, but that’s not typical from what I’ve heard. Please don’t let this scare you, I’m just saying this so you can be fully prepared jic. I went into my first pap thinking there was no chance it would hurt, and then the pain was that much more amplified because it was so unexpected and I was in a state of shock, and I don’t want that to happen to you. You should expect it to not be painful, but just ready yourself in case it is❤️
I want to reiterate that for the VAST majority of people it’s not painful and just a bit uncomfortable. It’s rare for it to be painful, but it does happen. So please don’t be scared, but just be prepared for any possibility because lemme tell ya if you find it painful and you weren’t expecting it to be painful, it can be extremely shocking and borderline traumatic. But it will more than likely be painless for you!!
