Maybe unpopular but I kinda don't like the "I beat my bf" jokes or stuff like that. I get that's it's like flipping the power dynamic but I just have a hard time finding DV "funny"

Yeah like im not a male survivor but i was abused by a woman and it feels so gross to me to trivialize domestic violence done by women as if its a silly concept that a woman would be domestically violent to her partner

i think we need to start holding other women more accountable in general. it’s not cute or funny or normal to treat your partner like a burden and joke about hurting or abusing or manipulating them. and we shouldn’t be letting anyone get a pass on spreading patriarchal, misogynistic, queerphobic, or racist rhetoric

I think "beating" is different than say consensual spanking or choking etc as a kink

It is, but people could be using it to mean things like that

Tbh I think the distinction is very important to make. I don't think people should be describing a consensual act as beating. It's wrong terminology and works to downplay DV which isn't cool

Well the truth is women can be abusive as well weather that be physical or emotional. I just don't think it's funny. And I think people discount women hitting men because they think oh he's stronger he could stop her but hello she shouldn't hit him in the first place. Idk I also work at a DV shelter and answer the emergency line so I hear a lot and it just not funny to me

also let’s bring back the whole killjoy feminist thing. a lot of bigotry comes in the form of in jokes and memes and you gotta be more comfortable ruining it for everyone. misogyny is everywhere, and is so deeply normalized even among other women, so it’s impossible to actually stand against it without pissing people off

I mean I totally get that if you police every joke etc too much then no one has free speech and it's helpful as a coping mechanism for some people to make jokes about their lived experiences so like I get it TO AN EXTENT but I think casual jokes that aren't about your lived experiences works to diminish the seriousness and hurts actual survivors and further perpetuates the issue
