hot take: i think unless the homeschooling parent in question has a teaching license, or childhood development or education degree, they shouldn’t be doing it. at all. homeschooling should 100% require a license.

I was homeschooled and my mom had an education degree. I feel like she offered me a lot more than traditional schooling could have, especially considering my insane anxiety at the time. About to graduate with my bachelors in marine bio and couldn’t be more grateful for her.

i know some people choose to homeschool bc their kids are facing racism at home or intense bullying and their curriculums are fucked like in texas, but so many people homeschool to religiously indoctrinate their children and to ignore their education and it’s fucked

i work at a library and the public school kids that come in for the most part really struggle with reading, learning, comprehension, social skills, and their grades. the homeschooled kids are honestly so much brighter and more mature and well developed. it wasn’t like that when i was growing up, and i cannot speak for everyone but i think in some places like where i am, the public schooling has declined so badly that homeschool can actually deliver a better education if done well

True story. One of my closest childhood friends couldn’t read growing up. Her parents had her ‘homeschooled’ but never actually taught her anything

Disagree for the elementary school years you don’t need a degree or nothing but I will say social development, relationship building and conflict resolution are important things school helps teach young kids. I also think homeschool kids should have to be evaluated after every year to make sure the schooling is proper because a lot of people don’t do it properly and just want the money. Public school is fucked tho idk that I’d wanna send my kid to one either

You literally do need a degree to teach elementary school though? Teaching isn’t just about knowing the material yourself, it’s a skill that can be honed and developed and the elementary school years are arguably some of the most important to teach correctly

Bro I literally went to a charter school that hired people that used to work at UPS and prison guards, you showing me one school that has that standard and policy doesn’t change the fact they can get around it

to be clear i’m not trying to argue because your point is well intentioned, i’m just offering a different perspective based on my experience. i’m in a rural area in a deep southern state, so i’m sure that this experience is not universal across the country
