my brother told me how guys will literally give tips on how to SA to make girls think it was at least partially their fault, gaslight, and lovebomb. if you have a trusted guy friend ask for insider knowledge cause i guarantee they get roped into these convos cause guys trust eachother easily to be on the same page with this
I don’t understand. Are you saying that anyone must be believed regardless of the evidence? I think needing evidence is a perfectly reasonable thing to do? What’s up with the internet lately and jumping to conclusions before seeing any facts? Everyone already thinks Gypsy-Rose killed her husband and there’s not even an autopsy.
I got false accusations my senior year by my ex-girlfriend, who I refused to do anything with because I wanted to wait till marriage. I had to drop out of public school, everyone believed her, she was older than me, and she had caused two guys before. It was proven in court that she lied, she refused to provide evidence that would clear me. The detectives dropped criminal charges because there was no evidence, and there was actually evidence against her.
It’s also engrained in your message that you have automatically labeled ANYONE who makes an accusation a victim, but that’s just not the case AND you’re wholly ignoring due process. Victims deserve justice. Improving knowledge on what to do to obtain evidence after an SA, instead of just saying “believe all women,” will help them obtain justice.
I am so, so, so sorry for your loss and for what happened to your friend. There are bad men just as much as there is bad women. False accusations are real, and I won't dissmis that. Our system does protect the accused with very little rights victims that are survivors of very heinous crimes. I believe we can still have a system that protects the accused, while paving rights for victims as well. Who really aren't protected by much in a system based on innocent until proven guilty.
Public opinion is directly interlinked with prosecutorial discretion. A person can be indicted on mere probable cause. You cannot isolate one from the other in a system run by public trial and trial by “a jury of your peers.” That’s to say that the public being driven by emotion rather than logic and evidence does undermine due process.
a man texts her apologizing for the night before. she says (paraphrasing) “none of the sexual stuff was actually illegal” what part of that implies consent to you? if it was a consensual instance of group sex, why would he be apologizing to her? why would there be any thought of whether consensual sex was had or not?
Advising “believe all women” doesn’t help obtain justice. They will be under a false impression that a conviction can be obtained on mere accusation. What will actually help victims obtain justice is telling people what to do to preserve and obtain evidence after an SA. Our system is founded on due process and a fundamental component of that is that the state must have sufficient evidence to prove a case BRD.
yeah ngl the sarcasm wasn’t hitting you kinda just sounded like an asshole. I get the point you were trying to make but when someone tells you they got raped your response shouldn’t be trying to make the conversation a point about something else. all victims should be treated with empathy
how do you know if they're false if they never go to trial? this is why estimates vary widely on how many are false. in order to get to that number, you'd at least have to separate out allegations that the putative victim formally retracted, allegations that the victim didn't want to push forward because the legal process would be traumatic, allegations where prosecutors dropped charges because it was a he-said, she-said, etc.
the original source for 2% seems to be a feminist writer loosely quoting a judge who made the statement at a bar association meeting. more recently there was a study that is generally considered the standard in the US saying 5.9%, but because of the small sample size the MOE was between 2 and 10 percent.
Please, I’d love an explanation on how I’m a rape apologists. Pointing out that women already get called liars for saying they’re raped is me being a “rape apologist”? Or is it because I pointed out that he’s a man on a page specifically for women arguing about rape and receiving snarky comments because of that that makes me a “rape apologist”?
