you? when you acted like people are paying thousands of dollars in money they have saved and not supplementing that with loans? yeah if someone doesn’t go to college they should have some other plan, like trade school or SOMETHING. it’s not classist if someone doesn’t want to date another person bc they’re not going to school and not working and making excuses about that
I never acted like that as someone who has loans myself 😭 not everyone wants to take on debt at 18 years old like how many times do i have to repeat that. I’d say a lot of those ppl made better financial decisions than I did with my loans And yeah I never said they shoudnt do something else, again I was referring simply to the elitist rhetoric op was engaging in before she said anything about anything else
Like I’d LOVE to get my masters. I love school and my field of study. Why don’t I go back? Bc I don’t want to take on even more loans! Could I in theory go back if I wanted to take on more loans? Of course. But I don’t want to go into further debt…. This is why a lot of Americans don’t go to college 😭
okay so what’s the alternative? working low paying jobs forever? yes it’s a lot of money in loans but the whole point of college is that you use that to network and get experience to get a job to pay those loans back. i personally thought about that a lot before going to school so i went to a cc for my first two year and have no debt from that, i went to a school in my state so i could get lower tuition, and i applied for every scholarship i could and lowered the cost even more. i also made sure
Most everyone in my office who makes more money than me didn’t go to college. You sound young and still in school and not in the real world. Depending on your field, as you enter the real world you realize how maybe there were other better financial decisions when it comes to schooling and jobs. Not getting a college degree doesn’t mean you’re automatically in a low paying job 😭 hell half of younger ppl with a degree work in retail or at a restaurant for crying out loud
i have a full time job rn 😭 how do you think i qualified for loan forgiveness? just because you regret your choices when it comes to your degree doesn’t mean everyone else does. i put a lot of thought into my future and thankfully it’s paying off now. good for the people in your office who didn’t go to school and were able to make more than you. idk how much that is so who knows if it’s even comparable to a living wage but clearly they did something right that you didn’t
I don’t regret my choices. I loved college and it was an important stage of life for me that shaped me into who I am today. What I regret and despise is capitalism. How I have to go into debt in order to further my education. I wish tuition was at least affordable if not free. I wish we prioritized education in this country over profit. But we don’t. So being in the real world and meeting all different kinds of ppl making various levels of income, I realized college isn’t the ONLY path
Like I was raised to believe. That there’s all sort of avenues. And I don’t look down on ppl who didn’t attend college. That was my whole point. The way op was speaking about someone who didn’t go to college. That’s what I take issue with. The judgement and moral superiority many who have degrees have. As a socialist, I despite that kind of anti social elitist language and perspective. That’s literally all
Oh sorry I’m not making top dollar being like a year into the field, Jesus Christ. This is exactly the condescending elitism I’m referring to. Looking down on ppl whose life didn’t turn out perfectly like yours. I’m so glad you’re so so so smart and so much better than everyone bc you went to college and had proper guidance when you were a child
when did i ever say college was the ONLY path? in general it’s a lot harder to make money in a lot of fields if you don’t have a degree, but it’s not impossible. also are you joking? you cannot get on my ass about being condescending when you were talking about how i’m not in the real world and so obviously still in school. sorry you don’t like it when someone matches your energy ig. and thank you, i spent a lot of time learning MYSELF how to navigate that bc im one of the first people in my
Bc of the way you talk about college and the job field, you’re clearly extremely out of touch. Your response to me saying “maybe not everyone wants to go into debt at 18” was “so your solution is to just have a low paying job for forever?” You’re the one who equated a lack of a degree to low paying jobs and I just corrected you that the real world doesn’t work that way?
I never told you or even implied you made a bad financial decision what 😭 I was simply pointing out that everyone’s circumstances are different and for some it IS a bad financial decision so stop being so god damned judgmental bc everyone is different and comes from a different background holy shit
tbh yeah i was mostly just thinking about my own field when i made that comment bc it’s pretty difficult to get a good paying job without a degree. like i said before trade school is a good option if someone doesn’t want to go to college and i knowww electricians/other trade workers probably make more than me. but for MOST PEOPLE if they aren’t going into a trade it’s GENERALLY very difficult to find a job that provides enough to support yourself
Literally the whole time I’ve been pointing out that every person and their background is different and therefore may not have the same access to schooling (an experience different than mine bc I went to college at 18) and all you’ve done is mock me for not doing exactly what you did, what are you talking about 😭
