HEY IM AN ENGLISH TEACHER it’s about how women that were struggling with mental health were told they just need to rest and doctors would tell their husbands to literally keep their wives locked in their rooms until they feel better and so the point is to show how harmful it can be when women aren’t taken seriously

I remember reading this in high school. I did get the feeling it was some sort of mania. And it didn’t help that her husband had her locked up. Super sad😵‍💫

yeah she believes she is the woman in the wallpaper. i interpreted the wallpaper as representing depression and the woman as death. it solidified my idea that she died 😭😭
