Unfortunately many rich ppl hold the belief that homeless people have done it to themselves

after getting involved with local shelters and outreach opportunities in my area, I’ve found that at least where I live, if someone is on the street consistently it’s bc they want to be. May not be that way everywhere

They just don’t want to be in shelters with all the rules, I don’t think that means they want to remain unhoused… where I live it’s 115 in the summer and heat is the deadliest weather condition. I’m sure they’d love AC and a bed to sleep in at night

It’s not just rich people. Growing up everyone is told not to give money to the homeless bc they could just go spend it on drugs or alcohol and not actually help themselves. Being older I know that’s wrong but when you’re a kid you really don’t know any better and just grow up thinking they’re there bc they’re druggies

One time my sister offered some cash to the local homeless lady and she literally told her no and that she’d rather a hotel room. It’s not that wild but to have such entitlement and think that everyone can afford a hotel room is crazy. Especially when we live somewhere hotel rooms aren’t that cheap

yeah I’ve tried giving food like bread or cans to them and they’ll throw it away. have been catcalled and harassed by a lot as well. I don’t go near most of them anymore bc almost every time I get too close they’ll yell at me or try to touch me :/

The people who downvoted this have 100% never actually interacted with any unhoused person other than walking by or saying hello

Nah I let an unhoused woman sleep on my couch and am part of a group that distributes food and water to them. None of us have this view of homelessness. It’s a systemic failing and trauma that goes beyond just putting a roof over someone’s head

There are actually lots of them who are great and lovely, I’ve had overwhelmingly mostly positive experiences

Same. The lady I let sleep on my couch ended up stalking me for months but she just had schizophrenia and obviously needed help… one time my bike collapsed at the park and an unhoused man helped fix it and clean up my wound and give me a band aid. Unhoused people live in the alley where I park and they have never bothered us
