I don’t think they ever fully understand what communism is, because with a base level knowledge in theory it sounds like a good idea, but like when you actually learn about what it is, it isn’t a good idea at all

i remember when i got in a debate with a tankie who was convinced communism solves everything when i asked if she's ever lived in a communist country, she said no. when i said i did and the experiences of my relatives and friends and how theory isn't always a perfect fit with reality, all of a sudden it was crickets
