My mom just got mad at me for not trying to lose weight. Um okay, I had almost 10-14k steps a day, went to the gym and barely ate for the last 2 years, and lost no weight. This woman thinks that ginger shots and a walk a day is all I need. I need a doctor

if you aren’t in the gym 7 days a week for 8 hours a day people assume you are not trying to lose weight. it’s so frustrating because i know you are already thinking about not losing weight and then you get external pressures that make you feel even worse.

This being the case, if you’re truly eating low calories and working out a lot without losing weight, you may have a thyroid issue

Real talk. The fact you don’t eat anything is why you don’t lose weight. You stress your body (lower blood sugar levels, and you dramatically lose your metabolism.) Stay healthy and consistent when eating (about four small meals a day). Eats lot of protein as it takes your body a lot of calories to digest it

It’s not all abt that though, my mom is actually against gym memberships cuz she’s like we get them and no one goes. She thinks a walk and magical ginger shots will cure everything, I’ve done that my entire life and it hasn’t worked but okay.

She also thinks going to the gym is not good for women cuz the only thing we’d use are treadmills cuz according to her, “women shouldn’t have muscles” and “muscles can be built really fast” like okay Dr Facebook.

she seems to have very outdated views about health, if you lose a bunch of weight but don’t tone, you will be incredibly weak and sickly looking

She wants that, so does every other south Asian mother. That is the literal goal, to be thin as a stick and look like u barely eat, might I say starve yourself, so that ur the perfect candidate for marriage

I got tested and my doc said that’s not the problem

i have weight loss issues from my hormonal issues (PCOS). even if it isn’t hormonal visiting a gyno might help since they specialize in women’s health

So I’m in a bit of a complicated situation, my mother is so controlling she won’t let me go anywhere and I mean anywhere alone, so I can’t go to a gyno. But last year I was in another state and had to get a physical for work and the doc was like u very likely have pcos or endo. So um yeah.

Many trainers say being fit is 30% working out and 70% diet

Even when I do eat right, my body just stays how it is, like how it has been doing. And I try to keep consistency, I’ve tried all the ways, fasting, eating lots of protein, or just different diets. Nothing work

You can’t miss a beat. As soon as you skip a meal it take even a few days to get your metabolism back to normal. Not sure if you do that or not but it’s better to over eat than under eat

“missing a beat” in your diet and workout routines are expected and it’s unrealistic to have an unwavering routine to that extent. routines are a big issue in peoples diets and workout methods because they focus too much on the routine that they counteract results. routines need the ability to waver to adapt to a persons life, which is constantly wavering. working out and dieting is not so black and white as you make it sound.

It’s not dieting. It’s creating a diet where you have a calorie deficit in accordance with your metabolism. Missing a beat is fine but that’s just how the human body works. We are literally designed to keep all of our fat. You have to go the extra mile. On top of that anerobic activity is the only activity that will initially burn fat upon a workout. Walking still burns fat but your body will switch between using carbohydrates and body fat. More carbohydrates than fat tho. Doing a sprint

Workout will definitely work. 30-45 seconds hard run 2-3 min walk. Repeat 10 times. You’ll lose weight in a week

for your body that works. you can’t say it will be the same for everybody. same thing with dieting. every body is different and every bodies metabolism is different. for me, fasting works best. but for people like OP it does nothing. and there are lots of beneficial exercises. running doesn’t work for me but if it does you great! but don’t promise ppl results when you have no idea what their bodies are like.

But what I am talking about are objective principles. While I agree our bodies our different. That is what you need to do to lose weight. Because we don’t have such a fast metabolism where we can eat what ever we want. If you follow a little bit of that (eating more protein, consistent meals, and anaerobic activity a few times a week) I guarantee you will see improvement

Also fasting does work. I agree. However, fasting needs to be done smart. If you fast all day then have McDonald’s at the end of it, you won’t lose weight

High sodium, high carbohydrate, and high trans fat meals while your body thinks you are starving will only make your blood sugar spike and make you feel worse while not losing weight

i fast and eat mcdonald’s all the time and i’ve lost 87 pounds so far because like i said, it’s not just “this is the right way” and “this is the wrong way” and cutting out everything you enjoy like i enjoy my cheeseburgers, just enables binge eating after a while.

I’m not saying you HAVE to do that. But if you’re struggling to lose weight under normal means. Then you should take the advice I have given
