I think it depends on your tone. I don’t think you should use it to pressure him into something but simply state that you won’t continue dating him if he’s not serious about you and the possibility of marriage.

first just ask him if he sees himself marrying you one day. then instead of making it something HE has to do, tell him what YOU’RE going to do. it’s not “either you see yourself marrying me or we break up now”, it’s “i don’t want to do long distance with someone i’m not planning to marry”. you want an honest answer, so don’t scare him with the break up part.
