Guys am I crazy or is this literally not how mental illness works. OP is basically saying “I had depression and then decided I didn’t wanna be the victim and now it’s gone!”

Lowkey it’s giving conservative mindset. My type 1 diabetic husband had a seizure due to his insulin pump malfunctioning and overdosing him while he was sleeping and my maga uncle found out about it and lectured me abt being with a “weak man who blamed the device for his shortcomings instead of being a real man and leaving the victim mindset”

Eh, yes and no. One part of over coming Depression is deciding you’re fed up with the awful feeling. However it’s not as simple as opting out of said emotions, mindset is only a small part of the journey.

Correct. Deciding it’s time to change is important and wanting to get better. But they are straight up saying people shouldn’t be medicated or go to therapy over there

Like it’s this genuine fear of not being perfectly able minded and bodied that they’re willing to claim “victim mindset” for anything

Correct. Like telling people to basically not get help and ignore their issues whether it’s mental or physical is so damaging. I’m sorry your uncle said that and I hope your husband is ok!
