not to prove op’s point but i listen to so much indie/not well known music that i lowkey forget that some artists i like are popular
i hate when someone posts a song and someone then says “i thought i was the only one that liked this song” why would you think you’re the only person that liked a song that was top 10 on the billboard hot 100???

if it’s indie and not well known then chances are no one knows about it. you’re safe

hearing someone listen to or speak about a k-pop song while you’re in america is normal to be a little shocked case a lot of people don’t, but if you go to korea and say “wow i didn’t know yall knew this song”……. that’s different

some bands are very popular now and i regularly see fans on my campus, there’s even a huge kpop group on mine. but to me it will always be a surprise bc there was only 4 other ppl that listened to it when i was in grade school. it’s a pretty big genre ppl listen to now and that shocks me

yea but comparing them in the US to an artist like taylor swift isn’t valid. the shock should be there. if i moved to korea and found out they listened to my fav american artist id be like wtf 😭😂

they still aren’t as popular as other american artists in the us!! if you go to an unknown small town and ask about taylor swift or beyoncé they’d know them…. they 9/10 woukd not know anything about a bts or k-pop group. 😂😭😭 hell i can’t name one song by them i only know about them because of one of them going to the military or whatever

your point was people on the billboard hot 100 and they’ve been on it. if you want to only use those two artist then you could use your point against most artist on billboard

& i said the shock SHOULD be there for kpop groups regardless.. in america especially so i completely understand why you’re shocked when you hear when someone talk about kpop groups 🤍

i mean your point doesn’t make sense if your argument is that they are in the top ten (which the have been multiple times)
