I need advice. I met this guy on a work trip a month ago. We’ve been talking for a few weeks, but I decided this week that I want to cut it off. Well I just got back from another work trip and he mailed me his hoodie😭 What am I supposed to say now?

For context, the trip was out of the country and he was our translator. He had my address because I left my hoodie there on accident and he was going to mail it back to me. I ended up telling him not to worry about it because I thought it would be expensive. I told him he could keep mine. So he thought he was being cute by sending me his😭 Now it’s awkward because I want to end things.

I feel like the kindest thing to do would be to send him the approximate amt of money for the package back to his address

Yeah it just throws off how I was going to talk to him about cutting things off. Because he’s going to be like “Did you get my hoodie?” And I’m going to have to be like “Yeah but I don’t want to talk anymore so I’m sending it back.” It just sounds so awkward in my head.

i mean you could word it a bit differently! like “yeah, but i’ve been meaning to talk to you about xyz”. it might not go exactly how you planned but it doesn’t have to! you could also just tell him now before he asks about the hoodie

Yeah that sounds a lot better. I just hate that it has to end with him sending me such a sweet gesture and me rejecting it. But I guess that’s how things go sometimes.

yeah, it sucks but it will be ok in the end. life sometimes forces our hand to make decisions we don’t want to make
