Actually vegetarians have also caused problems with the environment Leather products bought cow hide from slaughter houses But then animal activists aligned with veganism claimed it was animal cruelty and promoted vegan leather (which is just plastic) and has contributed more to buying plastic made clothes being seen as more socially acceptable and ethical.

Most vegetarians aren’t activists like that tho lol. When a single burger produces much more water than an ai query

Wouldn’t watering produce in supermarkets also use as much water? So I don’t get the logical jump you’re trying to make. U having a phone is contributing to child labor and/or slavery to mine the contents of its battery. Keep trying to make jumps it’s not going to work. U cannot ignore or downplay one issue by bringing up another

Do you think vegetarians only eat vegetables? Rn I’m really bad at eating my veggies and don’t buy them as much as I need to. Healthy people eat way more veggies than I do Well yeah pretty much everything consumes resources. I’m not judging meat eaters. I’ve even considered incorporating meat back into my diet due to my eating disorder. I just think it’s hypocritical to single out AI users like this (I have problems with some ai for other reasons) if ur not a vegetarian. that’s all I’m saying.

You don’t need to be vegan if it will stress you out girl, I struggled with an ED for many years and now the only “restriction” is being vegetarian except it makes me so happy that I CHOSE to do it for non ED reasons. If you can buy from local farmers who treat their animals good I recommend it, I buy eggs and milk from the mennonites/amish and you can see and meet their animals so yk they’re treated well.

it is significantly more difficult and less accessible to change one’s lifestyle around food than it is to just… not open ChatGPT or use a different browser. not to overplay the difficult of being a vegetarian, but the barrier between using and not using AI is incredibly simple and easy.

If ppl were really concerned about water usage like they claim to be they’d cut out meat bc it uses much more water than ai queries? That’s really all there is to it. Rather I think it’s more about moral grandstanding about how enlightened you are bc you don’t use ai. I also don’t use ai but mostly bc I don’t trust its accuracy and it’s important for us to maintain research and critical thinking skills. It’s just extremely hypocritical, I don’t get the shaming aspect

don’t ai queries use like 1/3 the water that the meat industry does? that’s still an insane amount of water lol. you’re minimizing people advocating against AI and using vegetarianism as an excuse. you’re not convincing anyone to be a vegetarian by doing this, you’re just encouraging others to take NO effort to do anything for the environment. if you want people to become vegetarians, make your own post instead of minimizing the effects of using AI.

No, a single hamburger requires thousands of times more water and emissions than a single query does. Huge difference, that’s why I think it’s so hypocritical Ppl are shaming ai for the wrong reasons and being hypocritical in the process Who said I’m trying to convince anyone, I literally said I might incorporate meat into my diet for ED reasons? What I hate is the hypocrisy and moral superiority

Keep coping, cows are as smart as dogs so their treatment is mad unethical and farming them causes a huge chunk of greenhouse gas emissions. AI doesn't even compare

Ur using a false equivalency. Again Supermarkets waste water spraying produce to keep it fresh and not all of it gets bought so do we just starve? AI isn’t just water usage it’s closing positions in the job market to a lot of people when the market is already shitty enough. It’s also unnecessary with how it’s being promoted and used today. We don’t need it to make content, write, or do anything humans have been don’t for years. We existed fine without the big use of AI, we have always had cows

default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #5 6d

Without cows what will we use to make leather? Plastic? Okay so carbon emissions, landfills get filled up, once again waste. I don’t think people realize how much beef byproduct we use on a daily basis False equivalency using apples to oranges No one was discussing the use of water a hamburger wastes until AI was brought up

Anonymous replying to -> #5 6d

Want to break it down? Yeah that statistic goes into how much water watered the crops to feed the cow (same w vegetables so just fucking starve) and watering the cow ect. But what the statistic on AI doesn’t account for is how much water is used to built these facilities with concrete foundations, to provide to construction workers and as someone who has a blue collar father it’s about a case a day. Water for the servers, the switches, water to mine the resources to make these machines-

Anonymous replying to -> #3 6d

Things to cool the machines to make use they don’t over heat, water that the people keeping track of these machines drink (developers and tech workers) So try to bring two separate entities just to bring some kind of “but you have to be a vegetarian!-“ but bitch are you a farmer? Are you a vegetarian?

one person can make thousands of queries in a week but only eat 21 hamburgers in the same week if they do it for every meal. also, again, you complain about moral grandstanding and hypocrisy while grandstanding, which is hypocritical. are you trying to make yourself look stupid?

yeah I genuinely don’t comprehend why we’re arguing abt this if we’re all on the same side. and if they wanted more people to be vegetarian then they wouldn’t pull this contrarian bs because it actively pushes people away from the cause. it pmo so bad, and it’s vindicating to know someone else here feels the same

Who’s making 1000s of queries? Who uses AI more than a few times a day? Calling out the hypocrisy of singling out one specific group of ppl (& the Oop!!) to shame them when most of us consume much more resources just living is inappropriate. Ppl don’t actually care if they’re not vegetarian, car free, don’t buy packaged food, only bathe, are perfect etc etc. we’re all part of society & use resources but ultimately it’s capitalism, billionaires & corps destroying the earth. Not poor humans

And yeah, when they say AI, they aren’t talking about some video game AI that was used back in 2002. Thing is you don’t have to eat a burger. You cannot avoid AI anymore. You make a Google search there’s AI you open any app there’s AI it is something that is inescapable so it’s used 10 times as much as somebody eating a burger. I don’t eat hamburgers never liked them never eat them. So guess what bitch your argument doesn’t apply to me.

Just every now and then since you can disable that on your phone. Even if you use it 10x more than eating a burger it’s still a drop in the bucket in comparison.
