I cannot count how many people my age still argue with me about whether drinking one only day a week until a blackout is alcohol abuse or not. (Hint: it absolutely fucking is alcohol abuse even when it’s not daily)

what scares me the most is the people who do not give a fuck about becoming totally not in control of their bodies. i drink occasionally (maybe once a month?) and as soon as i get tipsy i need to stop because i never want to experience of not being completely in control of my actions

My ex told me I’m “too young” to get sober/stop drinking 😞 I wasn’t an alcoholic but I had a horrrible relationship with alcohol and was on the track to alcoholism

As someone who grew up with family who didn’t drink (religious reasons), and who now socially drinks, it is WILD how pushed it gets in friend groups. I was on antibiotics during Halloweekend and an acquaintance didn’t understand why I didn’t just drink on them :/ I’m sad to see how big addictions (drinking, sports betting, and vaping) have gotten in our generation over the past 10 years

not peered pressured but when i took my first and only drink i did it where i was finally comfortable then got condemned by my friends for not drinking with them and also for not blacking out with them 😆

Alcoholism is bad but empirically/statistically Gen Z drinks way less than any of the gens before us so this isn’t really accurate

This is true, as someone who was drinking 15 drinks a week a few weeks ago

Nah bc being the only sober friend in my friend group (I don’t drink, smoke weed or cigarettes, vape, or do drugs) gets me left out of stuff sometimes and it just sucks bc I get major FOMO :/

No fr. I don’t drink much anymore unless I really just want a glass of wine and people will complain about how I don’t drink. Like hello, I don’t got time or the energy to drink on a damn Tuesday night

No fr. And when I tell people I waited till 21 to drink they think I’m crqzy

Sorry, but why the fuck do you care? Like let people live their life however they want. Also I blame millennials for this problem because I love to drink, but just because I love the drink doesn’t mean I’m an alcoholic.

Blacking out is the worst possible thing you can do drinking, it means your brain cells have died

And on top of that, it takes your liver weeks to months after a binge drinking episode to repair, and full healing can take a year, depending on how severe the binge was. So if you’re doing that once a week every week, there’s zero time for your liver to ever catch up.

Definitely a good idea. Remember to drink plenty of water and Gatorade, or some other kind of electrolyte drink to help that process

I remember a girl a used to be friends with in high school talking about how she always had a “shower beer.” You can’t even shower without drinking? 😭

I care bc it’s a problem that affects tons of young adults, my friends and myself included?? I’m not lobbying for a ban on alcohol, but this generation’s “drinking culture” is just borderline alcoholism that’s made to seem like and be accepted as normal. You’re allowed to enjoy drinking, but many people don’t know where to draw the line bc overconsumption isn’t seen as alarming anymore

That’s how you see not how everybody else is it personally I believe that if somebody wants to do something they’re going to do it regardless of what anybody else has that’s why I believe I give you truly wanna stop you have to want it for yourself because if you don’t want to put yourself then it’s never gonna happen

I don’t disagree that choosing sobriety is a personal decision, and you yourself have to want it if that’s what you mean, but that’s not exactly the point I’m trying to make. I didn’t make this post to shame anybody or tell anyone that they HAVE to choose sobriety, but if the culture wasn’t so normalized, a lot less people would even have to make that choice, that’s all

Personally, I don’t think you should be speaking in general because that might be your perception of it, but in reality it’s not I know plenty of people around me that do not drink and I don’t force them to drink or sit on them for not drinking. And same goes for me like if I don’t wanna drink my friends are not gonna make me drink or shit on me because I don’t wanna drink.
