Disney basically stated that you need to be saved by a man. Depend on a man, wait for a man, follow a man. You have no identity without a man. If you don’t find a man, you’re worthless. A peasant, just a woman. Ugh. The End

Not defending the studio but those are centuries old fairy tales they made movies about.

idk what your comment changes about this. they still chose to adapt those movies and reflect those values. and the original version of the little mermaid ends up with her turning to seafoam so they didn’t even adapt them accurately

The studio was more focused on making sure the stories were child friendly up until recently, hence the lack of seafoam. Movies like Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, and Cinderella were also made at a time when there were far more rigid gender roles so there wouldn’t be a focus on empowering little girls like there is now. OP is blaming a studio without considering historical context and source material.

i’ve genuinely never seen someone bootlick a studio this hard. yeah things were very different for women when disney first started making movies. and despite allllllll the changes that have happened, little girls are STILL being shown cinderella, snow white, etc where - thanks to disney - everything op stated is still being shown and modeled to them
