to all my girls who haven’t had a pap smear because they’re scared- let me just say that they aren’t as bad as they’re made out to be. i just had my first one, and if you calm your muscles before they do it so you aren’t tense it’s barely noticeable!!!

shit is scary as fuck but cervical cancer is scarier! had my first pap smear at 19 cuz my mom had it around that age. my mom wouldn’t be here if she hadn’t had a pap smear. they would’ve found the cancer too late and she and i wouldn’t be here at all. pap smears aren’t anything fun but they genuinely are so much better than people make them out to be. unless you’ve got serious tightness issues it is painless. a pap smear is easier to deal with than cancer found at a stage too late

this can be the case, but for a lot of women they are an extremely painful or traumatic experience. we can encourage reproductive health without minimizing those experiences or sending women into pap smears with a false sense of security

my mom has endometrial cancer so i started early too. i am so grateful that we have them (albeit they are not fun in any way). i just want to make sure all women are aware of the benefits and not avoiding due to fear (obv not including anyone with a past of SA, bad dr experiences, etc bc us women have to deal with so many things sadly that i understand completely those concerns!)

that is not my intention at all! there are so many factors that can influence someone’s experience and i am not at all trying to invalidate someone’s experience! i’m sorry if it sounds that way. i am just trying to encourage those who have maybe put it off solely bc of uncertainty of what it will feel like

but i do appreciate you saying this bc i hadn’t considered how this may be interpreted and i would never want to make someone feel worse about their experience! all of our bodies are different and each person will have a different experience for so many reasons (anatomical, personal, etc). thank you for pointing this out!
