
they should just be providing ear protection. sound is a very complicated thing and in short the levels will vary a lot depending on where you are (distance, geometry, materials, speaker direction, etc all play a big role and are very unpredictable) so having everything be loud enough throughout the whole venue while also not having any hot spots where it’s too loud is far too complicated and difficult for your average audio engineer at a small club or venue and damn near impossible to pull
off if you’re engineering a big festival or concert because the sound has to travel so far. and damaging levels of audio has a lot to do with length of exposure. they should instead just make earplugs freely available and have signs and warnings at the doors to make people aware they need to wear them. charging people like $10 for earplugs at big venues should genuinely be criminal
