No not at all! I’ve struggled with it since I was 11 and am now 24. The past few years it’s been so bad to the point of picking for 2-3 hours thinking only 10-15 minutes had passed. I’ve lowkey tried everything, nails/no nails, nac, no mirrors, nicotine. It’s been a combination of things. Accutane: it’s cleared almost all my acne but wasn’t perfect because I would still pick and the skin is so fragile it would just rip open. Shower in the dark: I tend to pick right before I shower so I don’t
Turn on any lights other than the fan. tools: threw away all Bobby pins, tweezers anything I would pick with Distractions: A really good show you haven’t seen before. Sometimes when I feel like picking especially before I shower I’ll sit and watch and episode of my show so I’m not near the mirror but still in the bathroom (weird idc)
I used to pick at my face for up to 4-5 hours a day and I was almost always bleeding somewhere on my face. I eventually found a way to clear up my acne and it REALLY helped. I stopped using was dermatologists told me to use and found topical treatments. I use Differin Gel for cystic acne, Clean & Clear persa-gel 10 for deepish zits, and Clean & Clear Advantage Rapid Gel (this last one doesn’t dry out your skin too!!) for surface level zits. Works like magic!
The first one can be VERY drying so use in moderation. A little bit goes a very long way. If you use too much, your skin could be peeling for the next week out of dryness and that can make your picking worse. The second product I listed is a little bit drying but not too bad, but it can leave a white residue for a few hours after you use it. I mainly use it before I go to bed. The third product isn’t drying at all. Sometimes I wake up the next morning and can’t even find where the zit was
