No nationwide data correct (it’s hard to get funding for these social sciences studies) BUT there are a multitude of studies talking about officers and domestic violence

Specifically the 40% stat comes from On the Front Line: Police stress and Family well-being by L.B. Johnson and Interspousal aggression in law enforcement families: A preliminary investigation by P.H. Neidig

Now other studies have obviously reported a different number (25%) these studies include Domestic Violence:When the abuser is a police officer by J. Feltgen, Deadly secrets: Violence in the police family by L.D. Lott, Protecting Lives, Careers, and Public Confidence:Florida’s efforts to prevent officer involved domestic violence by K. Oehme

yep. also it's very hard to collect data on due to factors like self report bias. from the data we DO have we know the number is disproportionately high—which isn't debatable.

that's still 1/4 of officers girl 😭 like u want to roll the dice on that?

Other studies have chimed in on the fact of police departments overlooking or trying to ignore police officers and domestic violence one study for example is Police Wife: The secret Epidemic of Police Domestic Violence

All in all, while these studies differ on the percentage at which police officers commit domestic violence (which is to be expected as it’s dependent on the area and the department) the common denominator among all these studies is that on average a cop is MORE likely to commit domestic violence than someone who is not a cop

i was a cj minor. i worked with cops for a while. i can wholeheartedly say they're awful people. a lot of the stuff u don't get to see behind the scenes is absolutely rancid and interdepartmental culture ensures that a "good cop" is not a possibility.

okay absolutely rancid ass take. i hope you take a class on conflict theory and systemic disadvantage and their contributions to criminality. do not equate people disadvantaged by the system to the oppressive force that upholds and enforces it.

💕
Anonymous 6w

then you should know the contributing factors to criminality and not to be fucking racist. for shame. acab extends to you too ig. congrats

yeah sorry not sorry. guess i care more about those who they brutalize and fuck over while enforcing laws that don't serve the population, but instead serve billionaires.

i've seen the police literally bulldoze through encampments of the unhoused with no probable cause or issues being caused. idgaf about their mental strain. try not being grade A shitty humans.

my goal is not to be an asset to a system that destroys people, but an advocate for them to fight it! hope this helps clear up a little! 🫶

events like attica are not too far behind us. we still see the impacts of systemic racism on an institution wide level. we still see the indigent being targeted by the system. in what world would i ever want to aid that?

i understand both sides of the system. it's why i no longer tolerate the system. you have yet to say anything of substance. you just keep digging yourself deeper.
