just fyi guys, you can be a liberal politically and still be a bad person. like OP said, there’s no such thing as an ethical billionaire. “just making music” doesn’t make someone a billionaire. the exploitative labor practices downstream does. and if you don’t think that she, or literally any other billionaire, is heavily involved in that, you’re mistaken. she’s knowingly sitting on the blood, sweat, and tears of average ppl like you and me.
do you know for sure that Taylor Swift isn’t using exploitative labor to create her merch, her cardigans, all the little things she sells? And I’m not saying there’s no one worse than Taylor Swift. That would be an insane generalization that I would never make. I brought up Taylor Swift because she is a relevant artist right now
i don’t think jenna ortega is a billionaire anyway, it’s extremely hard to become a billionaire because 1 billion is so much more money than i could ever comprehend taylors extreme wealth would be more palatable if she used it for good but most wealthy people like that, they will only use such a small insignificant portion of their wealth that it doesn’t make a difference
stop pretending like these rich celebrities are sweet, innocent, and relatable. stop pretending that they give af about the average american not being able to afford groceries or pay their rent. they can use their liberal politics as a shield, that “they’re on our side”, but once you reach billionaire status, you’ve turned in your humanity for being an elite. no one needs that much money unless they want power.
“the only reason she’s not seen the same as bezos is bc she’s attractive” which is why i said that bezos actually exploits workers and she just makes shitty music. if we know about bezos being a terrible person i am very confident something would have come out by now if she was doing the same thing
Okay and she’s saying that no one looks into her possible exploitative behavior because she is considered attractive and her job is ‘making music.’ A journalist would look more into a man running a shipping company than a singer/songwriter. You literally missed the point at face value. Billionaires are billionaires because somewhere down the line they started cutting corners. Some way somehow they started to exploit people to increase profits.
“Political values” is so funny considering how vague she is 90% of the time. She tries to claim herself as an activist but she’s so radio silent. she made a song about hyping up gay people (bare minimum) and came out and told Donald trump to stop using AI of herself and fans to promote his campaign. Thats all she’s done in recent years
i was pointing out that op never said she *is* using that labor specifically for that merch specifically, but that it's fair to ask you if you know she's not because you're insinuating she doesn't exploit people she absolutely exploits people in numerous ways regarding music production. i personally think the fact that a ton of her merch is fast fashion produced in low wage places with questionable labor rights (being *generous*) is enough to say it's true for a good portion of her merch too
get this, her family moved to tennessee JUST so that she could pursue her music career, not for any other reason. her dad invested hundreds of thousands in Big Machine Records, the record label that taylor signed to when she first started her career. if that’s not a luxury then i don’t know what is.
