Got a cat when my childhood dog was getting old, was absolutely devastated when my dog died. I have 2 cats now who are only 1.5 and 4 years old, but I’m already thinking abt how devastated I’m gonna be all over again when they die :,)

Honestly I was under the impression that cats didn’t have as much personality as dogs, so I wouldn’t be as attached, but they’re absolute characters and such an integral part of my life now that I know it’s gonna suck just as bad :(

Likely won’t have to worry about that for a long time, those things live forever. Hell, they might out live some of the people you know 😭. Ofc you probably already know this, but please try to keep them as indoor cats to increase their chances of living! Cats were deemed an invasive species in the US back in ~2017 and while they are protected by animal cruelty laws like many others, there’s little action you can take if someone accidentally or purposely kills them

What will hurt even more is that goose (left, older cat) basically adopted Maverick as her own kitten when we got him, so I’m gonna be in shambles seeing how either of them acts without the other 😭

Oh they are 100% indoors at all times! If I ever take them outside, they’re either on a leash and harness tied to a chair that I’m sitting on, or inside a pop up play pen thing with me right next to them. Maybe in the future when I have money I’ll build them an enclosed catio, but I’ll need a lot of money for how secure, safe and nice I want that to be

That’s extremely sad though, how horrible the law is that way :(

Tethering them to a chair outside with you sounds pretty cool, ngl

Yeah, people can be pretty cruel when it comes to them. In my area, it’s not that uncommon for people to go out of their way to kill strays. My ex-coworker’s cat that they let roam outside returned home with an arrow in its side. Her neighbors had shot it and she could do nothing about it

Jesus :(( poor baby. I’m also terrified of hawks/eagles snatching them up, getting into rat poison, or just eating something they’re not supposed to in general. My only worry is goose trying to run outside, because she’s hovered around the front door and took a couple steps outside before. So now we just come in through the front door as loud as possible so she avoids it 😅

Lmao. You “accidentally” let her escape on a coincidentally rainy day. Watch her come running back and avoid the door at all costs

Yeah we’ve carried her outside when it’s cold/rainy out and been like “is this what you want??” 😂 she does not learn but we still love her and her lack of object permanence
