This actually makes me so curious cause I’ve wondered smth To any white girls that tan: Why do you tan, how much do you enjoy doing it, and how deep of a tan are you trying to get?
i hate when people gatekeep regular tanning as if every white girl trying to tan is attempting to get as dark as a POC or something. girls who do that are problematic but it’s not all of us 😭

I “tan” without the direct goal of getting darker. Like I do want to get a little darker because my skin is basically translucent in the winter, but I’m mostly tanning to help skin conditions like acne. The slight darker skin tone also helps cover up acne marks and other blemishes. Overall though idc how pale or dark I am.

i’m blindingly pale, and a lil chubby, and i feel like i look better (healthier and more defined/less double/chinny) with just a touch of natural color to me basically, im ghastly and i “tan” to get to regular white 🫪

i’m OP of the quoted post, so i’ll probably get bashed here too, but me personally i am so white my veins are visible, and i like to get some light color in summer. i just like to look alive and not like a vampire. my complexion is so light it wouldn’t even be possible to get super dark, i keep it very natural, and my “tan” is still fairly light skin

I like to tan bc it helps my acne, I’m pasty white so some color helps make me look thinner and camouflages my cellulite, and honestly I call it my lizard time because sometimes sitting baking in the sun just feels nice. My skin will literally not allow me to get that dark without clocking some serious hours in the sun (when I played travel softball as a kid my arms were very dark but still never “racially ambiguous” dark)

I also always cover myself in high SPF sunscreen and never use tanning oils
