hey can anyone explain to me how to use a vaginal ring? its almost time for me to take it out and put a new one in but genuinely i don’t understand how it works. can i just put a new one in right away? or do i have to wait the seven days? its so unclear.

my doctor told me to put one in for three weeks, take it out for one week, then put a new one in. she also said if I wanted to skip my period that I could just put a new one in for three weeks immediately after removing the previous one that had been in for three weeks

🙋‍♀️ME! I love my ring and I love talking about it. Yes, you can put a new one in! I do that to skip the withdrawal bleeding/period that is induced by the leaving it out for 7 days (my doctor recommended only 5 days but whatever you think is best). If you put it in immediately you’ll skip your cycle and whenever you want you can take it out and have your period. I recommend having your period after 3 ring cycles to make sure everything is going good down there but my periods are so much lighter

I think it’s more up to personal preference and how many refills they prescribe

okay, thats pretty much what my doctor had said. but she said to keep it in for 25 days, and then either put another in or wait 7 days.

I also love being on the ring it’s made such a difference in my life. my bleeding is so much lighter and I don’t throw up from cramps anymore

HOWEVER, if you do decide to have your period make sure you put the ring in on the same day the next week that you took it out (so if you took it out on a Thursday put it back in on a Thursday) even if you’re still bleeding because it can thrown your hormones off

it could be normal, everyone reacts differently. if it’s bothering you definitely talk to your doctor

Yes totally! I get cramping around the time to replace it that’s why I recommend every 3 rings cycles having your period. Be warned though because I once didn’t remove the ring for a full year and I ended up passing a decidual cast due to tissue buildup in my uterus and it was the scariest thing that’s ever happened to me so just know that that can happen if you leave it in for too long because my doctor never told me about that and I thought I was having a miscarriage

OMG NOOO thats awful. I definitely plan on letting some bleeding happen. My doctor never told me anything about needing to do that, but everyone i talk to recommends it!!!

No I wish but I just replaced the ring every 3 weeks for a year without having my period because previously my periods were so bad and I was afraid to have one and when I finally did I had a decidual cast so that’s why I’m super adamant about having my period every 3 rings

It was awful it was like just a clump of tissue that was the perfect shape of my uterus and I had no idea what it was like why don’t they teach these things in sex ed 😭 that’s been my only bad experience with the ring though otherwise Im gonna be on it forever I love it so much

this is the way, also if you’re new to the ring which it seems like you are, I wouldn’t recommend skipping a period until your body fully adjusts in a few months

would it be okay if i leave it in for an extra day or two? i have something to do the day after im supposed to leave it out for a week. i’ll only have it in for around 26-27 days if i do that.

Yup! You can leave it in for up to 4 weeks but they recommend 3 weeks because that’s when it’s most effective

I totally get you! One time i accidentally left it in for 5 weeks and started bleeding anyway because it had stopped releasing the hormones since i left it in so long so 4 is definitely the max

I’m okay! It only happened for like a half hour or so. Painkillers actually worked. But I’m just so surprised I actually ended up having that happen after only one ring… I gotta talk with my obgyn fs
