“Abstinence is the only 100% effective pregnancy prevention method” yeah when the person CHOOSES to be abstinent not when you pressure kids into it through religious pressure or lack of sex education

Abstinence-only ‘education’ leads to higher rates of pregnancy and infections and worsened stigma/less desire to seek care, too.

They actually want teen pregancy for higher birth rates though. They want to keep women busy and miserable

Isn’t the whole idea of this message that it comes during sex education?

I’ve seen some forms of “abstinence-only” education where they force high schoolers to take care of a fake baby for a week then go “see how difficult and traumatizing that was? Don’t have sex and that won’t happen” and call it a day!

Oh and caring for the fake kid and doing it well is sometimes a requirement to graduate too!

I feel like taking care of a fake baby is a pretty solid way to show kids why it’s important to make good choices. Obviously it should be accompanied by other methods but it’s a hands-on way to show them the consequences of their potential actions

I’m pretty sure that whole program was discontinued in US public schools because it was ineffective at preventing teen pregnancy. Time and time again we see the most effective ways to reduce teen pregnancy are to give fully comprehensive sex ed and easy access to contraceptives.

At my school we were required to do it and it was a very abstinence heavy school. It really depends on the area and the funding the school receives
