college can only sometimes be a scam bc of the debt it puts working class Americans in and then spits out into an abysmal economy. Not bc there’s not inherent value in a higher education

YES THIS. I was homeschooled from kindergarten until I graduated high school. Here’s the thing. I’m an only child and my mom didn’t work, so she could help me with school when I needed. She is also VERY smart. I went to a REAL and ACCREDITED online public school with a nationwide curriculum. The only difference is that we had to mix in our state standards and take our state tests, of course. I had friends at school and was in extracurriculars with kids in both private and public schools. homeschooling is sooo dependent on the individual family. I was homeschooled for a bit and it worked out well for me (dad is a teacher + spent all his time teaching us) but friends I have using a "legit website" have struggled a lot more

you did say perfect, evolution didn’t happen over night, organisms began to need to do more then fight off diseases as the climate changed, the theory is LUCA was the most evolved, and LUCA did have chromosomes, all organisms do even single cell ones

cont) we are not single cell organisms, and LUCA is said to have possessed CRISPR-Cas-like gene editing abilities and was able to fight off diseases in that way. so why, if it was so perfect and autotrophic, did it need to evolve and keep changing? and it's not like other living things didn't exist at that time. Other cellular organisms like it and many other now-extinct beings existed at the time. again, why, out of everything else that was living, did LUCA survive and start evolving? it makes no sense.

Anonymous 1d

(cont) another thing is that if we humans and animals have chromosomes and LUCA did not, where did our chromosomes come from? You can't evolve chromosomes. They're far too large and complex and they quite literally ARE your DNA. So if we are agreeing with the idea that LUCA truly caused us and everything around us to evolve, we would be believing the idea that chromosomes and human and animal DNA was simply summoned somewhere down the line between now and 4.3 billion years ago. From a single-cell organism with no chromosomes.

I don't believe in evolution because Islam says that every being was created for a reason and is extremely unique. also, evolution is rooted in Darwin's theory of evolution which was racist and tried proving the idea that Black people were less significant to white people so the British Empire had a justification to keep enslaving and colonizing people and places. also, evolutionary biologists say that every single being currently on this earth originated from LUCA (last universal common ancestor). but how does that make sense? we humans are so complex and even unique to each other that the idea of me and a tree sharing a common ancestor is absurd.

It really depends bc I’ve heard about students relying on speech to text or text to speech for assignments and essays and can’t read, the public school system just wants to push them forward in grades regardless if they understand basic skills or not, homeschooling when done properly might not be that bad

A lot of degrees that pull people in with no plan or a false plan based on the name alone. Criminal justice programs that pull people in based on crime shows. Environmental engineering. A lot of hyphenated sciences and studies. “Pre med” programs that don’t actually prepare you for med school. Really specific “engineering” degrees aren’t intended to prepare you for an engineering job. Finishing school degrees that bait in poor people with the promise nepo-baby positions.

I was exposed to and interacted with kids younger, my age, and older from different backgrounds. That was very important for a homeschooled child with no siblings. I was a straight A student and make very good grades in college now. I’m a junior. Homeschooling if you do it PROPERLY does not always make someone weird, antisocial, or stupid. It will if you do it wrong, that’s for sure. I’ve seen it. People cannot believe I was homeschooled. If you’re going to homeschool your kids, DO IT RIGHT.

One more small detail because it’s very cute. My best friend of almost 7 years and I met at our online high school freshman year. (Everyone in our school “district” was from the same state and we only lived 2 1/2 hours from each other.) We’re both in college now at different universities and will be friends forever. We met for the first time 1 year after becoming friends, saw each other a few times in between, and took our senior trip to Disney World together. 🥹

A lot of art degrees are scams and leave people unemployed or with jobs that don’t pay nearly enough money to live in this economy. I danced my whole life and did not choose that path in college. I know many people who did and they are stuck living with their parents and working at our childhood dance studio. They have degrees in dance, as well as student loans. The same goes for musical theater, visual art, film (sometimes), and music (sometimes). These things are talents, not jobs.

Mhmm. My uncle’s daughter that he had with another woman (messy) has 3 small children that she “homeschools” as well. She’s home with them all day and they also cannot read. We contemplated calling CPS once because my aunt was scared that she wasn’t bathing the children and that the environment they lived in was so gross that it was a health hazard. That thankfully ended up being untrue, but her kids are still severely uneducated and it’s very heartbreaking.

The sad part of it is they think they’re teaching their kids through all of these enrichment activities and in reality it’s so minor it can’t replace actual subjects. They get so much money each year to spend on school supplies and tell me why they spent it on a 3d printer and a bracelet making kit??? The connection to actual skills is so small that they could use it for better experiences that improve skills they actually need like more books to actually know how to read

Well, Islam is incorrect and evolution is overwhelmingly proven and evidenced. Has been for many years. Darwin was shitty, but he was right about evolution being a thing that happens. He was not the first or only person to document and research it, either, he just has the most renown and had the most comprehensive information for the time. https://youtu.be/gDLfjHspa98 This video addresses christian creationism specifically, but targets many of the same lies you’d find in islam.

Isn’t a big part of most religions are a belief that their god(s) are perfect. If this is the case how can you look at all the flaws that are in humans and say that what was ‘created’ is perfect. There are too many medical problems and other simple things that go wrong in humans bodies for them to be be made by a perfect being

As a CJ student on a law track, I don't think criminology degrees are a scam. A lot of the coursework covers constitutional law, civil liberties, criminal procedure, and the justice system. Quite frankly, there are a lot of people who lack even a basic understanding of the Constitution and how our legal system actually works. That education has value, especially for anyone pursuing a career in law or public service.

Yes I agree I applied with as a film major as I took film all throughout high school so I know I would get into csulb cause they only look at classes and grades but I had plans of switching my major to something I can actually use. I realized I’m not good enough to stand out in the film industry which so incredibly competitive so I picked something else. People who actually make it big enough for it support their living. You either have to be really good and strong in your choice of art or it’s simply a waste of time.
