Did it hurt? I’m considering getting one. Hormonal or copper?

i got the mirena one since it lasts 8 years! i cried quite a bit but half was cuz i was kinda triggered when the nurse didn’t warn me she was putting in the speculum TWICE. then after that it was honestly pretty painful but i didn’t take ibuprofen beforehand so i def recommend that. i passed out on the way home but it was a combo of anxiety (i was nauseous and have a bad barf phobia) and not eating and being super tense. eat a little something beforehand too!!!

controlling your breathing and just making them do it no breaks so it’s over faster is what i recommend too. deep breaths are your best friend. ask them to walk u thru it so no sensation scares u too i kept asking her to tell me what she was doing but she was a student so she was focusing more on that than talking to me 😭 my bf was there to hold my hand too which helped a lot

When I got mine (also mirena) it just felt like medium bad period cramps and then it was done, I didn’t cry or vom or anything and the doctor who inserted it was very kind, the only bad thing was when I was laying there summoning courage to leave, the fire alarm went off so I just walked to my car and drive home no problem, I think I took like max dose of ibuprofen but that was it

I know I’m a little late but I have paraguard (copper) so I thought I’d share my experience with it since no one else has- I got it bc it lasts for 10 years and there’s no hormones. I had two Skylas before (hormonal last for three years) (one was replaced bc it was time and the other twisted and had to be taken out) and I like paraguard better. My periods are a lot heavier and my cramps are more painful with the copper IUD. They’ve calmed down after a year of having it tho. No other complaints!

Insertion sucked of course but it was my third time so I asked for pain meds and they gave me anxiety meds that didn’t work so they loaded me up with benedryl?? And did it
