good intentions are better than bad intentions. for instance somebody gets you a gift and it’s not something you like but they didn’t know that, there intentions were good so it is better than somebody who buys you the bad gift knowing you don’t like it. the thought behind it counts.
hanlon’s razor is something along the lines of “don’t attribute malice to that which can be explained by neglect or ignorance” and i think the two go hand in hand. someone buying a bad gift because they don’t know you very well is different than someone buying you a bad gift because they ignored your wishes or think they know you better than they do
