girl at my market stall today said i should make more keychains and bag charms instead of jewelry because so many people are allergic to silver. it felt shady but maybe she’s right. are you allergic to silver?

I’ve never heard of anyone being allergic to pure silver but silver plating I’m allergic to because there’s usually nickel underneath so I can only wear sterling

i don’t think you should stop, if people are allergic to certain metals then they shouldn’t buy that product. maybe add gold if you’re worried about not selling items though? ik personally i can never find cute jewelry because the main metal i see nowadays is gold

I think the idea of bag charms and keychains are more appealing than jewelry (to catch my attention at least) maybe that’s what she was implying too. I don’t think her comment had any ill intent regardless

yeah I have sterling silver the small percentage is copper which I don’t think is a common allergy either. I have some gold filled stuff too but the stuff I know is good is expensive. And I don’t want to sell people low quality stuff but they don’t want to pay high quality prices

I know gold is what’s in but unfortunately I feel like it often looks tacky. Like when you see a big diamond you know it’s cubic zirconia. You have to spend so much for it to look good

I don’t blame you especially as a small business. I think there’s such a large market for gold right now that there’s like 800 million other stores she could support if she’s allergic to silver and like bag charms aren’t necessarily a bad idea since they’re popular rn but only do them if you think your time and resources will be worth it. If you have an Etsy or anything you should drop it so we can support you!

No, I love jewelry! But I’m very very VERY particular about it and where it comes from. Whereas I love any and every rando keychain or bag charm. I also wanted to clarify I wasn’t saying you should stop making jewelry, but maybe explore other fun things to make in addition too!
