choosing cancer over a 15 minute uncomfortable experience once a year is insane

its def not 2 mins! and its def not so simple for everyone! it takes 10 min for me, i always need to squeeze someones hand super tightly . is it worth it yes but dont assume its “easy-peasy” for all

Also I’m sure they’re being hyperbolic. Many of them don’t believe they will get cancer, the typical “it’ll never happen to me” mindset. But also many of them won’t, precaution is important but why are you guys acting like if you don’t get the Pap smear you will automatically get cancer??

If it’s so worth it why doesn’t the medical field find a way to make it less horrendous and terrifying for women and girls? Seemingly every gyno related exam/procedure looks and/or feels like torture and when women are already dismissed if the medical field, it is understandable why they would be scared.

There is no pain. It’s not comfortable but it’s not painful at all. They are lying to you

Mine was painful because of my endometriosis. So yes, it can be very painful

Medical procedures can be uncomfy. It’s not like the biopsies they have wiht no anesthesia. Those r wrong. I hate getting my blood drawn, it hurts and makes me feel uncomfortable but if I want to be healthy I have to

I agree people have to too but I also understand the fear and treating it like it’s unfounded doesn’t help anyone

Why do you seem to think no Pap smear = cancer?

it’s about early detection. secondary prevention = screenings to find something early and treat it if it’s there. if you have cancer, pap smears catch it early or detect precancerous changes. would you rather have stage 1 cancer or stage 4 cancer

Because no Pap smear = no detection of cancer till it’s a late stage

It’s really that simple. Just go get tested

Well sure but also saying it’s like a torture device doesn’t help either

True but getting a mole scraped off your back isn’t quite the same level as a huge thing getting inserted into your vagina and your cerxiv getting scraped

They’re both uncomfortable but you should be getting them to keep yourself healthy. It’s really not that bad

I’m referring to the types of fears and comparisons I’m seeing from people who are scared and reflecting that in my comment

Just because you don’t have a sensitive vagina doesn’t mean other people are the same

it IS like a torture device though. some of us truly would rather have cancer. i can say for a fact that i would rather die than ever have a pap smear and im not exaggerating one bit

i’m glad yours was painless but that isn’t the norm. for many people it’s excruciating, sometimes the worst pain you’ve felt in your entire life
