I work at a gas station and I don’t really expect any type of behavior from anyone.. There are so many different kinds of people, you never know what you’re gonna get. So yeah, it makes me happy if a black lady calls me baby because it’s very warm and kind. But I’d NEVER expect it from them, like it’s some kind of duty they have. I treat all my customers with kindness and respect, and most of the men barely even grumble at me in response (if that)😅. I’m happy for anyone to be kind in return!😁
People who aren't educated on this stereotype and what it's done to the view of black women socially just won't understand, but it was my initial and immediate thought as well. Always the comforter, never the comforted. The caretaker, the problem solver, etc though she has the biggest cross to bear.
literally!! it is not a compliment! the reason so many nonblack people find comfort in older black women is because of slavery and jim crow forcing black woken to be care takers of white children, while earning no compensation. the emotional and physical labor is expected from black women, and like you said, never reciprocated
It's just sad because so many older black women WANT to fill that role and want to be kind and helpful and uplifting. Not because anyone is entitled or so some kid would post "I feel so good when an BLACK lady gives me attention!!!1! 🥹🥹🥹" but because they're just good-hearted people. It's come to be an expectation of the demographic when really, those women are the EXCEPTION! They deserve their flowers and they deserve reciprocity.
