tldr; there have been no studies on elephant brain activity because they are too large/impractical for mri machines. belief elephants find humans cute is likely due to positive interactions between elephants and humans, but scientists haven’t studied if elephants’ behavior stems from wanting better treatment from humans (especially for elephants in captivity), normal elephant social behavior, or actual perceiving humans as cute
