You’re right he did, but just in the few weeks before his death he had started to backtrack and even said it’s an ethnic cleansing. Doesn’t excuse his earlier remarks but that’s what OPs referring to

You won’t find the footage where he criticized them because they’re covering it up, but he did. Supposedly he also turned down a lot of money from Israel and an invite to visit.
