My mom was able to schedule her breast reduction!!! It's in a few months and she's so excited (I'm really happy for her too). If anyone has ideas for gifts I could get her to use after the surgery to help make her life a little easier, Imk!!

I dont have gift ideas but I had a reduction and here’s some tips: - the drain clips suck, and its very uncomfortable when the drains fall and tug at the wound. secure them as well as you can - make sure she can access help during night. you have to sleep sitting up for a bit and if you slump it’s uncomfortable. She’ll need help sitting back up - stay on top of the pain meds!!!! on time, not an hour early or late. dont try to tough it out. Its a massive and painful surgery

Perhaps think of a way to wash her hair in the kitchen sink, a chair low enough?

Something that really helped after my own surgery (through not breast surgery) was having people around to help with basic things. Having help washing hair or getting some clothes on was really humanizing. It’s nice to feel clean. If you’re able to be present with her, it would mean the world to her to have someone around to fill a water bottle or grab something from across the room.

- prioritize rest over literally anything. Just because this surgery was not due to illness or injury doesn’t make it any less of a big surgery. She needs rest. - fluids fluids fluids. always a full bottle of water and a straw. encourage staying hydrated - move around SLOW. There’s no rush. Fast = pain.
