And I don’t even mean like people debating weather gothic black metal or early darkwave is part of goth, people have looked me in the eye and called mcr goth 😭

Defo emo genre. I was a vampire freaks kid so I was into birthday massacre and Kerli but even some ppl will say those bands aren’t goth either. I defo think whatever your generation is, the definition of goth will be diff from other’s. My brother is a gen x and he was into Marilyn Manson so I think whatever your age is will determine what you think goth music is.
