
This is obviously not to say people should stay out of the gym, but seeking progressive overload, especially for someone with a significant amount of weight to lose is just gonna slow progress, where you could probably get your health in a better spot faster if you just did maintenance lifts, and upped the deficit.
And I say this is someone who fell into this trap where I was stuck at 30 pounds above my current weight for months because I was worried about losing muscle and when I just bumped up the deficit and stop trying to lift more or heavier, I was able to cut so much faster and still have the aesthetic results I wanted.
